Peter Sellberg’s work centers on a conceptual exploration of identity, examining how we present and shape ourselves in relation to others. This is manifested through sculptures and paintings which he in a systematic way places in various degrees of clear depictions and abstract interpretations. Being half Swedish and half Polish, Sellberg draws from his experience of navigating multiple identities, a perspective that deeply informs this artistic process.
At first glance, the exhibited sculptures appear to focus primarily on formal qualities. However, beneath the surfaces lies a conceptual depth centered around the idea of “the formation of words as sculpture.” Each sculpture represent a dialogue; an exchange of information that form a visual language. The sculptures remind us that our identities are shaped not only by the words we share but also by the interpretations and narratives constructed by others. In this sense, the artworks can also be viewed as “the formation of us as sculpture,” with each piece becoming a testament to the complex, and often fragile dynamics of identity and perception.
